Dear Dia(na|ry)

I smelled your scent again for the first time in years. I didn’t think that memory was still in me. I can no longer recall it at will. It’s understandable that people would die for that kind of scent. Kill for it.

I miss you. I do.

I wanted to be like you

All my life, I have been plagued by the fear of not being good enough. This has driven me into seclusion against my will.

Someone smarter than me once said that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. If I have ever once made an attempt to spend time with you, it was b/c I thought more highly of you than myself, and I wanted to be like you.

Somewhere along the line, my strategy for getting to know people became assimilation. I ask enough questions to get the other person talking, listen with my entire being, and absorb. Absorb, absorb, absorb. Absorb what you say, what you think, and how you behave. You lead. You choose what we eat. What we listen to. What we do. And I become you.

The mockingbird. Like me, it restlessly stays up late at night searching for its identity, singing the song of every other bird, yet never settling on one of its own.

I wish I had a human heater

I wish I had a human heater.
In the morning I always need her.

I’m always cold when others aren’t,
overnight or in the theater.
I’d turn her on when I need her
and hold her close as I greet her.

I wish I had a human heater.
I’d know the one when I meet her.
She’d leave me with a love-sick fever.

I wish I had a human heater.
In the morning I would need her.
I get cold and wouldn’t leave her.
She’d be my winter chill reliever.

I wish I had a human heater.
In the morning, I always need her.
